New Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) Genotype

In this episode, Nichola Pusterla, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, DAVDC-Equine, discusses the new equine herpesvirus type 1 genotype, H752, which was responsible for a 2021 EHV-1 outbreak in Pennsylvania. He reminds veterinarians that they should treat all EHV-1 strains as if they can cause neurologic disease, and he discusses the importance of daily temperature checks for high-risk horses. Finally, he advocates for conducting more research on risk assessment for EHV-1 to help show managers, horse owners and veterinarians better understand how to reduce disease and deaths.

“Daily Vet Life” brings equine veterinarians, students and techs short, educational talks from industry leaders. Brought to you by Zoetis.
