Alana Harrison is the Digital Managing Editor for Practical Horseman and Dressage Today. She’s been riding and showing in hunters and jumpers for almost 35 years, many of which she shared with her beloved Thoroughbred gelding, Memphis, before he passed away in 2018. Despite her love for off-the-track Thoroughbreds, she’s currently leasing an adorable 18-hand Trakehner/Clydesdale cross named Alex, and trains with Rachel Rohweder at Native River Farms in Fairview, Texas.

While studying for her journalism degree at Texas A&M University, Alana also had the opportunity to expand her riding experience and education as a member and captain of the Texas A&M English Equestrian Team and through equine studies’ classes.

After graduating in 2002, she started her career in equestrian journalism at Horse & Rider magazine, where she learned the ropes of Western equestrian sports and served as Managing Editor until 2010. Following her time at Horse & Rider, Alana worked as an editor, writer and photographer for Western & English Today, as well as for the American Paint Horse Association’s publications Paint Horse Journal and Chrome magazine, and served as a freelance contributor for EQUUS, Practical Horseman and New Holland Publications. Alana then went on to expand her equine nutrition and health education at SmartPak, working with both their customer-care and marketing teams.

In 2024, she was excited to return to her equestrian-journalism roots by joining the Practical Horseman and Dressage Today teams. Alana is based in Dallas, Texas.
